What study with Puerta al Tango?

"I danced for a couple years before the pandemic and then tucked that away. In January 2023, Graham appeared in Albuquerque at the same location I used to take classes. I joined right away. I was ready to come back to Tango. His style is very different from my last teachers so it was like starting over and 9 months later I am still settling into this style where the floor is my best friend instead of being on my toes. After 9 months, I really cannot say that I am a better dancer but I sure love his classes and go once or twice a week. They are lively, fun, energetic and social. We have a blast!! Then one day recently I decided spontaneously in a group class that it’s time for a private lesson. Two privates later really turned the page for me. It was fantastic and gave me renewed confidence in Tango. Thank you Graham!"

“The way I see this workshop was as an embodied knowledge workshop. Arriving with you in your body and finding your connection with yourself and floor and freeing yourself of tension. Then building from your organic movement, with your experiential knowledge thus far in tango, to try a movement experiment and see if it feels good, makes you curious, and maybe consider another way of being and feeling inside the dance. Graham is a lovely human and doesn't present with a lot of ego, it all felt very fluid and comfortable. I really enjoy learning in this way.” [referencing 1st workshops given.]

"Graham is a truly kind and generous teacher and person. His technique will bring you a greater knowledge of the dance, your own body awareness, and connection to your partner. His style has helped me in healing an old physical injury, helped me quiet my mind when it is anxious and grow with a group of different levels that are becoming friends. We all look forward to class. His kindness and goodness as a person and teacher bring out the best in everyone who studies with him. I feel very fortunate to have him as an instructor."

“Graham is an incredible teacher, and his lessons come from a place of deep experience and genuine kindness -- a zen, martial artist/dancer! His gentle humor and clarity in my private lesson was supremely good. I think he severely under charged, but I'm grateful he came to Maine; we had a good time. Especially with the Game of Rondas! Highly recommend participating in this!”

“This was my first time studying with Graham and it was a wonderful experience. Graham understands the foundations and can translate them to the more sophisticated aspects of the dance. A great instructor from beginners to more advanced students. “

“I took a class with Graham this fall, and I didn't know what to expect when I signed up. But boy was I in for a fantastic surprise! First, he is a very down to earth human being. He is there because he loves the way the dance allows for beautiful moments, and he wanted all of us to have more and more of these magical moments. He was clear about where we were going and you could see on the face of everyone that they had done something similar, but it just didn't have the "it" they were searching. He is helps chip away all the wasted energy / noise and focus on communication and savoring. Once you get it, it is all smiles. I wish I had learned this earlier.”

“In a world of people who want to rush to the flashy moves, Graham shows how better a dance can feel when one masters the fundamentals. His years of experience and care shows in his teaching, encouraging everyone to take their time and get in a place where everyone feels comfortable connecting with one another, the ground, and the music. I wish I learned all this years ago, it would have saved me so much stress and anxiety dancing and I highly recommend anyone curious about tango to explore the Milongero style that Graham teaches you. “

I just started my Tango journey a few weeks ago. Graham was recommended-Highly so, by three different dancers at another club. With zero experience I’ve been welcomed by the community he has created at Puerta al Tango on 1st street. I have gone to and danced in two of his “Practi*Longas”; the one he hosted this past Saturday was Thee Best social event I’ve been to. I was encouraged , dancing with very good and experienced dancers! Thank You Graham!

"Thanks so very much to Graham, who made me feel comfortable right from the first moment of my first tango class‼️ It is easy to see, that Graham is a very experienced dancer, but it is his welcoming, relaxed style for sharing his passion for tango, that keeps me and many others coming back‼️‼️ I do not have any previous dance experience and Graham makes it feel safe to explore this whole new world of community, movement, expression and co-creation🔆🔆 It was a stretch to go to Brigitta’s workshop last week, after only 3 beginner classes, but Brigitta and Graham and the advanced students who were there, were all so gracious, patient and encouraging‼️‼️ Graham promotes and creates a wonderful sense of community in his classes. And he and Brigitta co-created a beautiful space to explore playful ways of connecting with the floor, ourselves, each other and taking that into our Tango practice. I feel like a little embryo, soon after conception, just waking up to explore who I am in this new way, and,I only hope that I can be as patient and as gracious with myself, as Graham and Brigitta and the more experienced dancers have been with me. With deep gratitude to all of you at Las Puertas🔆🔆 Debi💙"

(part 1) "By a twist of fate, I stumbled into a tango class, mistaking it for swing, and the world of tango captured my heart from that first mistaken step. However, my initial encounter was bittersweet; my first previous instructor, though skilled, lacked warmth and presence, leaving me yearning for a guide who could match my newfound passion with equal parts expertise and encouragement. Enter Graham, a serendipitous arrival in town, who became not just an instructor but a beacon of tango for me. Learning under Graham has been an extraordinary journey. His patience is boundless, his knowledge vast, and his teaching method? A perfect blend of depth and detail that breathes life into every step and movement. Graham doesn't just teach tango; he immerses you in its soul, focusing on the foundational movements that are essential for a dancer to truly excel."

(part 2) "Thanks to Graham, tango is no longer just a dance for me; it's a profound exploration of connection and expression... a bit of a therapist in motion. His emphasis on the nuances and the core principles of tango has empowered me to become not just a dancer but understanding how to be a storyteller through movement. I've not only fallen in love with tango; I've discovered a deep, enriching well of learning and growth within its embrace, all thanks to Graham's guidance and wisdom. Tango for me has been a teacher of both art and life, offering lessons of how we truly connect with ourselves and others... lessons for me that extend well beyond the floor of dance. For anyone looking to embark on their own tango journey, or to deepen their existing practice, I cannot recommend Graham highly enough. His teaching will transform your dance, infuse it with meaning, and perhaps, like me, you'll find in tango a beautiful teacher for life and a source of endless learning of growth <3"

"For someone who has never danced this before, I immediately felt comfortable and welcome. It’s not just beautiful music, but it’s a beautiful community that is engaging and forgiving. Graham is by far one of the coolest guys I’ve ever met and made me feel very welcome in his classes and is l his personal touch made me want to come back."

"If you're looking to learn tango in Albuquerque in an environment that is laid back with an instructor who genuinely cares about his students and knows what he's talking about, Puerta al Tango is it! I always thought of tango as being a bit pretentious or only for certain types of people, but Graham's classes aren't like that at all. He makes tango simple to understand and fun to dance. If you're curious about tango, give this place a chance. It's such a safe, comfortable learning environment."
