WHAT TO KNOW!

WHAT TO BRING ~ & ~ WHAT TO WEAR

  • Wear what you like as long as it is clean! I’ll be in jeans and a t-shirt, perhaps, with dance sneakers.

  • Shoes - we have some donation pairs. I have 4 pair of sneaker-socks to borrow. Otherwise just something thin-soled and best not a grippy rubber.

  • Spare shirts & deodorant! It’s normal to sweat, I always bring 2-3 extra shirts and deodorant!

  • Coffee, onions, garlic… we love them, too…. this is why there are plenty of breath mints at the studio! A lot of tango dancers refrain from eating garlic and onions before dancing. We are very forgiving at Las Puertas!

  • Perfumes & Scents - for allergies please limit or be mindful of scents (even laundry detergents)

  • Want to donate a funky coffee mug to our collection? Most welcome. We keep a stable of nice teas.

  • Bring something to share if you like! Fruit, baked goods, chocolate…

WHO IS INVITED ~ & ~ HOW TO BE

  • You are invited! If you are a chill and generous person you should come! Be cool and inclusive. Misfits most welcome! We have no tango royalty at Las Puertas… just good and wholesome hanging out.

  • 2 practice areas: A = just like a milonga to dance in the ronda… do your thing here in the ronda. B = where we can help each other, practice, group work , tango therapy aka mechanics (technique)

  • Any experience is welcome, even if it is your first time we’ll help (the most ideal place to start is 2nd Saturday free class). But still come and have fun!

  • We work with each other as equals. A beginner mindset

  • Come as you are! If stressed out we’ll help shake off the week.

  • Do you need to dance? Only if you want to! You can chill, socialize, play chess or a board game, have a coffee… no worries!

  • Do you need to socialize? Only if you want to. It is totally normal and welcome for folk to just watch, listen to the music, read a book or just dance without hardly saying a word!

Want to Volunteer a shift?

We exchange practica for a 1.25-1.5 hour shift at the welcome desk. You can still dance, socialize, play chess, read…just when the door opens drop everything and welcome that person and help them get in the flow and ease on it the space feeling good and in the know!\

Shift 1: 4:45 to 6:15pm

Shift 2: 6pm to 7:30pm

Shift 3: 7:15pm to ~8:30

A mentorship between experienced & aspiring DJs

Want to have a shot? We’ll just need to have a brief interview to make sure you at least have basic knowledge before playing for the community.

Each DJ will spin a 3-tema-tanda cycle: Tango ~ Tango ~ Vals ~ Tango ~ Tango ~ Milonga The last hour will be a collaboration between the two or just one victor!
